Think From the Other Person’s Point of View also

A few things I read and realized today.

I was reading How to Win Friends and Influence People and came across this:

If you can show people how your product or service can solve a problem they have, you don't really have to sell it. They will want to buy it.

The more I thought about it, the more true it felt.

Instead of trying to convince someone to buy something, show them why it matters to them.

How will it make their life easier?
What problem will it solve?
What will they be able to do because of it?

At the end of the day, I think we all want to buy something and later be able to say:

“This was one of the best things I ever bought.”

And I think this applies beyond selling things.

If you want someone to do something, don't just tell them what to do.

Tell them why it matters.

Help them see what they can achieve after doing it.

The person who genuinely tries to understand and help others has an advantage. So maybe we should practice looking at things from the other person's point of view more often.

Not just:

“What do I want?”

But:

“What does the other person need?”

That small shift in perspective can change a lot.
